How I Work

Psychotherapy Approaches Often Used In My Practice:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)--is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people's difficulties, and so change the way they feel.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)--is a type of psychotherapy that involves a combination of cognitive therapy, meditation, and the cultivation of a present-oriented, non-judgmental attitude called "mindfulness."

Psychodynamic Therapy--also known as insight-oriented therapy, focuses on unconscious processes as they are manifested in a person's present behavior. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are a client's self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.

Humanistic Therapy--is a perspective that emphasizes looking at the whole individual and stresses concepts such as free will, self-efficacy, and self-actualization. Rather than concentrating on dysfunction, humanistic psychology strives to help people fulfill their potential and maximize their well-being.

Existential Therapy--is a unique form of psychotherapy that looks to explore difficulties from a philosophical perspective. Focusing on the human condition as a whole, existential therapy highlights our capacities and encourages us to take responsibility for our successes.

Client-Centered Therapy--places significant focus on the client. The client-centered therapist refrains from asking questions, making diagnoses, providing reassurance, or assigning blame during his or her interactions with the client.

Expressive Arts Therapy--is the practice of using imagery, storytelling, dance, music, drama, poetry, movement, horticulture, dreamwork, and visual arts together, in an integrated way, to foster human growth, development, and healing.

Psychotherapy isn't one size fits all. It's a unique relationship that develops and responds to your needs, life-experiences, ethnic/cultural identity, challenges and resources. With compassion and understanding, I work with individuals, couples, and families to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth and interpersonal relationships they are committed to achieving. I apply an integrative and eclectic variety of psychotherapy approaches to help my clients gain awareness and process the feelings, thoughts and subconscious patterns that may cause distress and disruption in their lives.

My stance in therapy is also informed by my work with clients with diverse backgrounds. As an open-minded and accepting professional practitioner, I try to provide services to a wide variety of individuals. I believe that everyone has the capacity for healing. Our work together will include your body, mind, heart, and spirit. I often times include nature, meditation, exercise, and art in our clinical practice together to support a healthy, creative, and balanced lifestyle for you. In therapy, we process your experience – sometimes the raw, chaotic material of your feelings and memories - and translate it into a language you can understand.
